Train broke in the middle of nowhere so we had to wait for busses and continue our journey by bus which led to approximately 3h delay.

It's a slow moving train with lots of intermediate stops on the way. The AC section is a walk-in freezer.

We used this Travel Agency to bet 4 2nd class sleeper tickets from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. VERY IMPORTANT you understand they are a travel agent and therefore buy you your tickets and you have to collect them at a different location from the train station. There notes do say this but it could be clearer and they were a 40 min+ walk round trip from Bangkok station. However they saved the day (as we didn’t have time to get there and back) and with excellent service we managed to get tickets and get the train to Chiang Mai. Would recommend 2nd class on the number 9 train. Perfectly good despite my wife’s earlier reservations.

It was amazing ! Super efficient bus leaves on time ! Would recommend to arrive at bus terminal 30 mins before intended time . Boarding 15 mins before . Bus is super clean , there is a toilet in the bus (clean) Have to use bidet to flush . If you are particular about your toilet , they have 1 pit stop 4 hrs into the ride Overall super happy with this trip
