Pros
Tigerline Travel sails to all islands in the Andaman Sea, even some of the smaller ones that are difficult to travel to independently.
All boats have air-conditioning if you select the first floor cabins.
You can select other add-ons with this service including taxi pick up at your hotel or the airport which is helpful if you are newly arrived in Thailand.
Bookings can be made online.
Cons
Boats do not run all year round and are seasonal and schedules are subject to change. At times boats only run in the busier months such as August.
The Tigerline Travel website is basic and it can be difficult to book tickets directly through the site.
Boats do not run if the weather is stormy.
You may find that boats are subject to delays particularly if there are a high volume of passengers.
Keep in mind
Some of the smaller islands like Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan, Koh Mook, and Koh Lipe do not have a pier and so you will need to get a long tail taxi boat from the ferry arrival point to the island. These boats belong to local fishermen and are not included in the ticket price. You will need to pay the driver of the boat THB50 or USD1.50.
Travellers reviews
Though in general people are quite satisfied with the service, when booking pick up combos delays are common and you can be put on the next boat. This is Thailand! Be patient or buy ferry-only tickets to avoid confusion. Note that even in this case you can still arrive later than expected due to the tides.
There have been some reports of overcrowding of the boats with not enough seats and life jackets for everyone aboard. In fact, we were very surprised to hear that as during the last couple of years the regulations on sea transportation became much stricter than before and are widely enforced. So hopefully you won’t face this issue during your journey.
