Sima Express Ticket Prices & Bus Classes
One of the best things about bus travel is that you can almost tailor-make your trip adjusting it to your requirements for privacy and comfort. Different classes and types of buses cater to the different needs of travellers. The cheapest trips are normally offered by standard-class buses. They may be called local, express or ordinary. These are a good choice for shorter trips. Sleepers or VIP coaches are good both for longer and overnight trips. They may offer berths or wide soft reclining seats, sometimes with built-in massage options, blankets, soft drinks, and snacks, or more substantial meals on board or during toilet or refuelling stops. Travelling by night buses allows you to save on a hotel room, but to ensure the most comfortable ride do choose the class of your bus wisely. Prices always depend on the distance you ride and the type of coach. For some, even shorter trips, it is worth investing some extra money and buying a seat on a VIP bus as it can save you twice as much time as you spend travelling by an ordinary bus.
Travel by Bus: Pros & Cons
Pros of Bus Travel
- Bus is the best choice to get to destinations that are not connected by rail or planes. The network of buses often covers almost the whole country, and their routes are well and long-established.
- Opposite to air travel and sometimes rail travel, taking a bus does not require arriving at the bus station much in advance. Check-in, even on international routes, does not take much time. Luggage allowances are usually very traveller-friendly, and the fee for extra luggage, if limits are set, is normally not very high.
- Bus tickets can be more affordable compared to air or fast train tickets. There is always a choice of ticket classes for all pockets. Cheaper standard options may be a bit slow and do not offer top comfort, but anyway acceptable and bring you to your destination. On longer routes, toilets or toilet stops as well as snacks, water, and sometimes toiletries and blankets are almost always included in the price.
- If you are ready to spend more, some VIP coaches offer seating comparable to business class on a plane with wide soft reclining seats, blankets, fewer passengers, and many other perks to make your trip a pleasant journey.
Cons of Bus Travel
- Newer intercity bus terminals are very often located out of the city close to bigger highways to allow buses to avoid city congestion. Unfortunately, it may create extra challenges for travellers, too. Getting to such a terminal may be a problem as in some destinations there are restrictions on vehicles allowed to enter the terminal, and you will have to use special carriers to get there. This results in higher costs as prices may be inflated. Also do calculate extra time if you are travelling during rush hours, especially if you are not familiar with the traffic situation at your starting point.
- Buses are probably the means of transport which runs out of schedule more often than trains or planes. They are heavily dependent on the road situation which sometimes can be unpredictable – accidents, road construction works, detours, etc. This is especially true for travels during weekends, high season, or national holidays. Do keep this in mind and do not plan tight connections.
- Travelling on certain routes or during the most popular periods may require advanced booking. Bear in mind that it is not always possible to show up at the bus station and hop on the next bus – tickets may well be all sold out, so organize your trip accordingly.

Hannah KI booked my ticket so that I would arrive in Siem Reap for 7.30pm however when I reached my transfer in Phnom Penh they told me I would have to wait until 4.30pm for my bus meaning that I wouldn’t arrive until around 10pm. When I questioned this as there was an earlier bus leaving which would have got me to Siem Reap on time the employee just looked at me and laughed. There was no explanation as to why my arrival time was pushed back 2.5hrs and this caused a lot of stress as I was unsure if my hostel reception would still be open on my arrival. I understand that sometimes things change but to have someone laugh in my face and give no explanation was not acceptable in my eyes.

Moritz SAfter taking the boat we needed to waiting for 1.5 hours to get into the bus. After arriving in Phnom Penh we needed to change busses and needed to wait for another hour for it. So we arrived almost 2 hours later then expected and it was just because of the long waiting-times. The busses do not have any leg room if you’re a bit tall so it was not comfortable at all.

olivia Itook way longer than it said. went from sihanoukville to siem reap, it said 9 hrs but it was 12. we were in a decent sized mini bus to phenom penh but then they moved us to a tiny mini bus with not enough room for everyone and their bags. there were bugs in the bus too. the bus driver stopped every 20 minutes, even after everyone on the bus kept asking if he could just carry on driving because we were already late and he just laughed in our faces. wouldn’t recommend.

Kevin BWe paid a little more than we needed to because the transport was advertised as a “comfort minibus”, the photo also appeared to show a type of vehicle that we’ve been happy travelling on before. What we actually got was a regular minivan. I hate minivans, they are the worst kind of transport going for a long journey. They pack you in like sardines, they struggle to fit everybody’s luggage in, the seats are too close together and there is little leg room. In fact, if you end up in the row behind the driver, there is no leg room at all. They are ok for short journeys but are very uncomfortable for longer journeys. I would not have booked this had I known in advance.

nieztego Mixed experience. First part from Hcmc to pp went very smooth, all on time, stops exactly as promised, immigration went very quick also due to help from a driver. Second part from pp to Sihanouk not so good, i was placed in a van and waited there for about an hour until other passengers arrived. We had a substantial delay (1.5 h) and the driver drove very dangerously for about 30 minutes.

Aksel RFirstly our driver almost fell asleep several times on the way, as he swerved across the road multiple times. We had to wake him up and keep him awake for the whole trip, which was really scary as we feared for our lives.
Secondly our ferry didn’t go our destination at Sok San. It only sailed to Long Set Pier, which is on the opposite site of the island. They said it was the mistake of 12GO as their company didn’t sail to that port. Therefore we had to catch a taxi to get us across the island which costed 20 USD and a lot of trouble.

Pauline EIt was everything perfect when we arrived to the agency, the start was punctual.
But on the highway one wheel exploded (was it already old and in a bad condition? I didn‘t check the wheels when we left Phnom Penh because I‘m not a mechanical) so it was a little panic in the van. I was afraid of an accident. The driver could par the van on a side way of the highway and he also could change the wheel with some difficulties. We (there were 13 persons in the van - and some didn‘t have a security belt!) were waiting a little bit away from the van when the driver tried to change the wheel. It was dangerous - what happens ig some car crashes into the van?
Finally we we all lucky to arrive to Sihanoukville with the van and the changed wheel.
Maybe the agency should check better the technical condition of the car and the wheels.

Claudia BBus was overbooked, not enough rooms for the amount of bags and people on a small mini bus. Made the bus uncomfortable and the aircon wasn’t great which added to this. We were dropped off at the wrong place and when we tried to speak to the driver to explain we thought it was the wrong place he wouldn’t speak with me or even acknowledge I was trying to speak with him. I am obviously aware there is a language barrier which is why I got up a translation app on my phone to help us communicate but he still wouldn’t listen. We were the given the wrong ferry tickets and the people in the ticket office ended up coming to the port to look for us to explain that we had been dropped off at the wrong office and given the wrong ticket.

Krzysztof PI was terrified when I read the reviews, but I had to take this transfer because it was the only one that suited my departure time. If I had another option, after reading the reviews, I definitely wouldn't have used this company... and... I would have made a mistake, because everything was great. Very comfortable seats, good air conditioning, and the driver drove safely.
I saw in the comments that people were complaining about him picking up other passengers along the way – really? What did you expect, a taxi that would only take you for a few bucks straight to your destination? Next time, take a taxi. You're on vacation, loosen up your roller skates a bit, because I see a lot of tension over nothing here.

Bill SSet off 5 min early - all good. Large bus bus AC struggled. Bus broke down. We were informed anther bus would pick us up in 10 min. An hour later a small mini bus arrived and we all squashed in.
We were an hour late. The road was good and the new driver caught up some time by speeding!

Carolin SAll in all the vehicles (Ferry, Van and Bus) were ok, but the communication of the service team was awful! No one told us, if we had to get of the van in Phnom Penh or if we’re taking the same vehicle to Ho Chi Minh. And after we managed that somehow, crossing the boarder was…let’s say an adventure to not say it was a disaster. The guy almost yelled at us to get of the bus, left with our passports without a word and we didn’t know where to go or what to do. The companies definitely have to improve their communication!
