Kampot Transports Ticket Prices & Van Classes
Opposite to trains or bigger buses, vans rarely offer you a choice of ticket class. All the seats are the same – call it standard, VIP, or whatever. What can differ, though, is the type of the van itself. Some vans seat only 9-10 passengers. For travellers this means wider seats, more space, and a more comfortable trip. Vans which accommodate up to 15 passengers are also ok but be ready to sacrifice on space for your legs and elbows and very often – for your luggage, too. Sometimes it can be a good idea to buy two seats instead of one to ensure a more comfortable ride – yet it pays to check with the operator if they allow this on your route. Travel by Van: Pros & Cons
Pros of VanTravel
- Vans can be the only way to reach some of the most remote destinations, smaller towns or villages which are connected neither by big buses nor trains.
- Vans can also take you to some islands connected with the mainland by large car ferries which do not take big buses but take vans on board, too.
- Due to a smaller size compared to big buses, vans are more maneuverable on the road. It sometimes results in shorter travel time, especially if your destination is not far away.
- While vans do have an official stop enroute, they can also get you off at a more convenient point – no need to go to the terminal, just ask your driver. Note that it is not always possible, but in many cases, they will cooperate. It can save you both time and money you would have otherwise spent getting off the terminal on foot or by taxi.
Cons of Van Travel
- Vans accommodating more passengers may feel quite cramped. Expect limited space for your legs and elbows. Some vans limit the luggage for one ticket to one piece. If you have more bags, suitcases, or backpacks, you may be asked to buy a separate ticket for your luggage, which makes the trip twice as expensive.
- Not all vans run on schedule. On certain routes, vans leave only when full. Do check it with your operator before buying your ticket, otherwise, you may end up waiting much longer than expected until the van fills up.
- If there are more reckless drivers on any other means of transport than on vans, we are unaware of it. Some companies install speed control units on their vehicles, but it is not a rare case to hear this unit beeping the whole trip through with the driver not paying attention to it. Always remember to buckle your seatbelt while travelling by van. Though sometimes you will need to make an investigation to find out where your seatbelt is.
- For those prone to motion sickness there is a good piece of advice: take your medicine half an hour before your van trip, especially if your route includes winding stretches. You are more likely to feel motion sick travelling by van than by bus.

Got on another bus from there and then after a stop, was dropped at border to Vietnam. Everything good there. Except for the seatbelts being broken. Waited on Vietnam side for a while. Cafe i was told to wait in was hell and everyone that worked there was an absolute disgrace. Nothing to do with the company, but id avoid. Another van brought me from border to bus station. And then had to get on a Sleeper. Which is where majority of my rating comes in. There is no other way to describe the driver of the Sleeper bus other than an ignorant asshole. Slamming on breaks. Constantly honking. Then screamed at me when I asked for toilet. Zero communication skills. Maybe let your drivers know that screaming doesnt = understanding. Disgusting behavior. Was also 2hrs late.

• In Kampot, the departure was delayed by 40 minutes.
• After crossing the border, we waited 30 minutes at the meeting point for our driver. We were not informed of his location or what he was waiting for.
Overall, the communication between the different transport segments was very poor.
• The driver who kept us waiting after the border crossing had major communication issues. While his English level was acceptable, his tone and instructions were unclear, coercive, and confusing. He refused to answer questions or provide explanations.

Tasmin HI would not recommend this company if you want to go the Kep. I asked twice, to two different people, if this was the bus to Kep and they said yes. It was suppose to stop at Kep on the way to the Vietnam boarder but this did not happen. I asked in the van when they dropped off a colleague if I should get off for Kep as we weren't too far away and the person next to the driver told me no, we're "x" amount of km away. We then passed the beach area and the bus driver showed no signs of stopping which is when I said something. When I was let off the bus we were 10-15 minutes away from Kep tourism office where I should've been dropped off. There was no tuktuk/grab and I had to hitch hike back. There was no apology from the driver.

Megan LThe wrong pier was put on the ferry tickets and no one thought to inform us after multiple phone calls of us trying to find where to pick up tickets. Eventually when we found it 35 minutes later, they knew this was an issue. The ferry was over an hour late which would’ve been fine if we were told. Lots of people sick on the ferry. Got to the bus station to be told we’d missed the bus as the ferry was late and had to wait 2 hours. Tour office smelt as rubbish was everywhere so couldn’t wait there. Eventually when we got on the bus the driver drove fast down the bumpy roads and we had to stop to have the tyre fixed. Said we would arrive at 5:15 and arrived at 8pm

But I bought a ticket to the airport and instead of driving me up to the terminal the driver dropped me off at least 200 yards away on the side of the highway. Absolutely bewildering. I had had no conflict with him, no interaction with him or anyone else. Had to lug 30 kilos of luggage in the heat and I'm a heart patient. Luckily found an airport cart in the parking lot about halfway. I honestly barely made it inside.

Isaac PThere could be more information on where we are meant to be for each part of the trip as the information is generic and doesn't talk about the ferry to minibus element etc.
The drive itself on this trip is pretty bad - the roads are awful but the driver did do a good job considering.
Operator set off on time at both stops but arrival was quite a bit later.
