Pros
All the boats used by Greenlines Ferry are fast and comfortable; in fact most of them will be virtually brand-new so you’ll feel safe throughout the journey. The standard of boats on this route is likely to be superior to many other ferries and speedboats you may have been on across Vietnam.
When you leave Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll enjoy seeing the city from a different perspective. There are some great views of the city as you travel along the Saigon River before emerging into the South China Sea.
Cons
The timetable for services with Greenlines Ferry may not be the most convenient for your trip. The latest return ferry from Ba Ria – Vung Tau back to Ho Chi Minh City is at 14.30, so you’ll only be able to enjoy a few hours at the beach if you have travelled there for a day trip. Other local operators on this route offer a wider range of departure times so you’ll have more flexibility travelling with one of these competitors.
Another thing to note is that for the last part of the journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria – Vung Tau is that you will be travelling on the open sea so the trip can get pretty rough. If you suffer from seasickness then it is definitely worth investing in some tablets to try to make this part of the trip slightly more enjoyable.
Keep in mind
It can be worth booking a return journey as tickets can sell out due to the limited amount of departures back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Travellers reviews
The biggest issue experienced by those travelling with Greenlines Ferry is the extremely limited range of departure times on offer. This is less of an issue when you are leaving Ho Chi Minh City but it is very inconvenient when you are heading back to the city again. The latest departure time form Ba Ria – Vung Tau is very early in the afternoon and will only leave you around three hours to enjoy the beach before you have to head back to the pier. It can be a bit frustrating when you’ve made the journey for a day trip! Because of this, many travellers choose to travel back to Ho Chi Minh City with another operator offering a later departure time.
Travellers do often praise Greenlines Ferry for the high quality boats that are available on these services, with the majority being in good condition and ensuring you have a fast, comfortable and safe trip.
