Koh Samui to Bangkok Destination Reviews

AS
TravelBusAsia – extremely poor incident handling and lack of cooperation During a trip with TravelBusAsia (Booking ID: ABH32931), my bag containing a professional laptop and original documents disappeared. The total value of the lost items was approximately EUR 4,500. A police report was officially filed (Case No. EV60005256900681E). According to information from the investigation, CCTV recordings indicate that after all passengers, including me and my pregnant wife, had disembarked, no passengers were seen removing my bag from the cabin or our seats. Despite multiple written requests, the company refused to provide full access to the CCTV footage and stated that it would only be released upon a formal police summons. I am no longer in Thailand, and the company was aware of this, making the lack of direct cooperation more problematic. I am not making any accusations about individuals. I am sharing my experience as a passenger: - valuable property disappeared, - access to relevant evidence was denied, - the process was delayed rather than handled transparently. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this company, especially to passengers traveling with valuable belongings or important documents. I am sharing this review to inform other passengers and to encourage better transparency and cooperation in similar situations.

We waited a lot of time at the pier, to have the minivan for the city, around 40 minutes just waiting there. And then, once in the city, we had to wait 3 more hours, in a parking lot with a small restaurant. After that, the bus arrived. No internet, no meal, no snack, no drinks. Nothing of what I paid for. The only good thing is the seat, that is spacious. No pillow, just a not-so-clean blanket. So basically everything they announced is not true

Everything starting that bus did not pickup us after ferry from koh samui as other operators do. We was picked up by minivan than after more than hour we reached city (nothing so bad so far) but than all bad things starting. Buss didn't left at 6pm as scheduled by 12goasia webpage. Nobody could even explain when we gonna leave. They just told maybe half 8 maybe 8 we departed almost at 9pm. Waiting time was over 3 hours from scheduled departure time, there was no food no snacks no wifi served as ticket promised, finally got standard bus having vip tickets. Arrived Bangkok more than 2 hours later as scheduled yes it was mentioned arriving time is not accurate but 2-3h difference is that slightly innacurate? Honestly every point of this trip was SLIGHTLY INNACURATE. Go to buss station by ticket from there go to buss which keeps schedule and provide what they promised by selling you ticket BBC isint that operator.

It claimed that we would get FREE water and snacks. Instead at the first stop we have been told "it's the last stop BUY your food and snacks now" and the second stop the same. The last companies offerd a free meal as well.

I had a start and end time of the trip but no other information. I sent a request to 12Go which was unanswered. I called the tour operator for information and was told the driver would provide the information. The driver said an agent was waiting at the ferry port but none was found, after some confusion and no tickets to board the ferry, finally just before the ferry was departing a worker scanned tickets from their phone to allow us to board. Next came the bus , again some confusion and then were given tickets to board a bus which did arrive in Bangkok but at the different station then the one I picked and at different time. So yeah absolutely dissatisfied from the service provided by 12Go and the tour providers.

People didn’t show up to the mini van from the ferry, so we had to sit and wait for an hour or so in the van. The operator also sent the wrong ferry tickets so we had to contact them to get correct ones and we almost missed the ferry.

Travelling by bus essentials

  • If you are planning to travel during the high season, weekends, or national holidays, booking your bus tickets in advance is highly recommended. The demand is at its highest, yet very often, the number of coaches serving the route remains the same. The earlier you reserve your seat, the better. On some routes, you need to secure your ticket more than a month in advance; on others, a couple-of-days advanced booking is enough. During such periods, try to book online beforehand whenever possible, as showing up at the bus station without a ticket may result in many-hours of waiting in the queue or leave you downright stranded.
  • VIP, 1st, Gold, and similar bus tickets are the most expensive option, but they provide a higher level of comfort. Normally the price of such tickets will include wide soft reclining seats, blankets, water and snacks or lunch, and sometimes some toiletries. Upper-class buses travel faster, make fewer stops during the route, and normally provide more spacious seating to their passengers and a better travel experience.
  • Not all buses have an on-board toilet, but generally, for all trips longer than three hours, all operators schedule a bathroom and/or a lunch stop. While operators definitely do their best to keep on-board toilets clean, the smell may be an issue sometimes. For longer trips, booking a seat a bit farther from the toilet may be a good idea. Also, using bathroom stops for your toilet needs is always better than trying to find your balance in an on-board toilet on the run.
  • If you travel by an air-con bus, make sure to pack layers. A hoodie, a warm scarf, or a beanie hat may prove a good idea. Air-conditioning on buses tends to be excessive, and running nose and sore throats abound after even not the longest bus rides.
  • Always use the security belts even if your bus ride attendant or driver does not insist on it. Your safety comes first – for you, for sure. All buses normally are equipped with security belts, but they may be fixed behind your seat. Take time to find the belt and fix it appropriately.
  • To avoid being disturbed by overhead lights, switched on during stops even at night, and too loud music or sound from the on-board entertainment system, have earplugs and a sleeping mask at hand.
  • As a courtesy to other passengers, avoid using strong perfumes or smelly foods. Some foods like cheeses or durians are forbidden to take on-board – check in advance. Alcohol is also prohibited on the majority of buses.
  • Note that if the bus requires refuelling en-route, passengers will be asked to get off the bus. Operators are not allowed to refuel with passengers on board due to safety reasons. Usually, it takes from 5 to 10 minutes and is often combined with a toilet/lunch stop.
  • If not stated otherwise in your tickets, arrive at the bus station 20-30 minutes before departure. It will give you enough time to find the departure platform and check-in. For international trips, you may need more time for check-in and border formalities.
